Analytics: smartphones force out PDA actively

The analytical company Computer Industry Almanac has published its survey on the smartphones and PDA market dynamics with the forecast. In 2003 the world PDA sales outpaced smartphone sales by 70%. In 2005 the smartphone-PDA ratio was 3.1:1, in 2006 it is predicted to be 5:1. The smartphone sales are ever growing and they will 11 fold higher than PDA sales in 2011.

Depending on the region we can see a great dispersion. Well, in Europe the smartphones were to PDA as 6.5:1 last year and will be 13:1 in 2011. In the US the situation is different. PDA were still the leaders in 2005, however under the forecast smartphones will eventually outgrow PDA in 2006 and will lead 4.4:1 in 2011.

According to the company, increased PDA functionality might prevent from the future sales drop. Navigation opportunities and in a couple of years mobile TV are expected to protect the PDA market from the downturn in future.

am si eu o intrebare... de pe ppcuri se ia la fel de usor vopseaua precum la smartphones?

pai depinde..
un ppc nu prea il ti in buzunar, nu are taste..
al meu are urme de uzura doar pe spate de la statul pe masa..
in schimb trebuie sa ai super mare grija cu ecranul..

naspa. mai bine rabd 2 ani cu ce am acum pana ajung modelele hi end la un pret mai romanesc mersi .

UMA Based Smartphone Prototype from Chi Mei Spotted at the CTIA 2006

"HTC wasn't the only manufacturer showing off new Windows Mobile devices. Chi Mei also had a new Smartphone at the show. The unnamed device was a prototype smartphone with UMA technology for seamless roaming between GSM networks and personal Wi-Fi networks at home. The Chi Mei UMA phone is surprisingly small. It seems smaller than recent HTC smartphones like the SDA and 2125. Its features are pretty standard: 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, memory card slot, etc."
UMA stands for Unlicensed Mobile Access, it enables seamless delivery of mobile voice calls over Wi-Fi networks and it also enables seamless transitions between cellular and Wi-Fi networks. There is considerable speculation that T-Mobile will be launching a UMA enabled phone soon. While I am sure that it will not be this Chi Mei Smartphone, but it would be good to see a Smartphone in the UMA enabled list. Wink I definitely like UMA based solution over Skype like VoIP applications.
